Laptop!

Well, after having used a laptop that belonged to the college (university!) for about a year or so I finally decided to take the plunge and buy one. I guess I’m just trying to help out the economy by spending my economic stimulus money.

After much looking and compariing I ended up going with a Dell Vostro 1400. Dell was running a special where I got double the hardrive space and free shipping. The basic configuration is a 2.0 Ghz dual core Intel processor, 250GB hard drive, 1.5GB RAM (soon to be 3.0GB), 14.1″ XGA+ screen, built-in webcam, and a bigger than standard battery. I guess we’ll see how much use i get out of it.

I ordered it with Vista Home Premium, but will probably reformat with either Vista Business 64bit or XP 64bit depending on the driver situation. I’ve been playing with Virtual PC and Windows Server 2008 Hyper-V virtualization software lately so my ultimate goal is to have a server running in a virtual machine on the laptop for class “stuff”. That should eliminate some networking issues.

it’s scheduled to ship the first week of July. Expect a better review when it gets here.
