Movies

I was watching –Please Don’t Eat the Daisies- the other day and it hit me. I want to be in a Doris Day movie. Just the way that she puts her hands on her children’s shoulders and says “Now please fellas, be my good and true friends, huh?” before leaving them with the new babysitter kills me. Can you see Lynette saying that to her kids on –Desperate Housewives-?

From the language to the romance without the sex to the way that they sneakily slip in songs, even in the non musicals, I’m getting sucked into a world that never was. I love the way that she can go from capris to evening gowns, from flannel to diamonds.

I’ve always wanted to go back to that time. I’ve always wanted to have friends who were so close that they dropped in for coffee...and made it themselves. I’ve always wanted to have children that I could address as “my good and true friends” and a quirky little family complete with a neurotic dog.

Not that I don’t love my sweetheart of a husband and our three cats. But it’s fun to pretend sometimes.

I’ll probably be humming “Que Sera, Sera” for a while now.
