I’ve been watching –M*A*S*H- again lately.

I used to watch it with my dad. Well, that and the original –Star Trek-.

I’ve decided that I like Radar better than Clinger and B. J. better than Trapper and that I like “Hot Lips” better when she’s not with Frank.

But I like the show. I like how it can be sad one moment and hilarious the next. I like how Hawkeye can be so much of a troublemaker yet so much of an activist. I like the quips. I like the tearjerkers. I like how they all seem to care about each other. I like the personal touches, such as Radar’s teddy bear and Margaret’s pretty robes.

Best of all I like the way it was written. People died or left or slipped away. War was hectic or boring or endless. Friends were loyal or jealous or loving. The commanders weren’t always infallible and the chaplain didn’t always have all the answers.

For thirty minutes at a time, we get a slice of life.

Too bad that it had to be based on reality.
