TV Shows

I’ve been watching a lot of –Dharma and Greg- lately. I watched it some when it was first on and thought it was cute, so, when I found it in reruns one day, I tuned in.

I missed the episode where they first met as children only to reunite as adults, but I have been laughing along at the “meet the parents” and “Greg moving into Dharma’s apartment and trying yoga” type antics.

I can’t help it, sometimes I like silliness. I like that Edward is befuddled as to what his wife really means but feels like he can play translator when she is being polite but snippy. For example, when Kitty wants something done, she says “Thank you” in frosty tones and walks out of the room. Poor Larry looks at Edward and asks “What does that mean?” Edward has to reply “I don’t know, but it rarely means `thank you’.”

I like that Kitty will occasionally let her guard down to reveal that she isn’t so different from Dharma as she likes to pretend that she is. I love the episode where Dharma enters her mother in law into a beauty pageant, much to Greg’s dismay.

And I love Jane. I love that she and Dharma do crazy things, like going shopping and pretending that they are English tourists or dressing up as milkmaids. You wouldn’t get away with that here in our small town, but I like the idea of being uninhibited enough to follow your whims.

But most of all, I like the idea that people on the show love each other in spite of their differences. I like the all inclusiveness of the show, the fact that everyone is welcomed.

Wouldn’t it be nice if the world really was like that?
